PROFILES YOUR STORY MISSION SPONSORS HOME

Welcome and thank you for visiting our website.

We are students in the Syracuse City School District and we want to change the way that our classmates and teachers are perceived.

Our schools contain a diverse collection of talented, artistic, worldly, athletic, intelligent and accomplished individuals. Our teachers are caring, giving and smart.

What is your perception of an SCSD student? This site is here to show some of the reality of our district. We hope that you will share our story with your friends and loved ones.

Describe a typical day:  I wake up, get a ride to school, greet my art teacher before going to class, have lunch with my friends, finish last classes/blocks, go to club meetings (Literary Magazine, Student Council, National Art Honor Society, etc.), take the Centro home and get a ride to work/internship at Clear Channel, have dinner and finish homework and go on the computer before going to sleep.

If you were a book, what would your title be?--and why? Soundtrack because the theme would compile my memories through the songs I loved during those particular periods of time.

How do you express yourself? I express myself through poetry and art. At the moment I really like using wordplay and abstract elements in my pieces.

What makes you proud to be a SCSD student? More than anything, I am proud of the people that make up the Syracuse City School District. My peers are ambitious and committed to causes they believe in. They are talented athletes, musicians, etc. My teachers support my peers and myself inside and outside of the classroom. They are coaches, club advisors, etc. but most importantly, mentors. I feel proudest of this aspect because I believe the people make up the identity of the district, and they truly do a great job because they are diverse and successful in reaching their goals. This is the Syracuse City School District; it is a place filled with bright people.

What does SCSD mean to you? The SCSD is a collaboration of diversities; different thoughts, cultures, goals, etc. Diversity is not just found in ethnic backgrounds. It is found in the form of the different ideas, artwork, and opinions I hear from my classmates.

What are some things you do that affect others in a positive way? I volunteer at local walks and help my art teacher teach kids at the Everson Museum.

If you had the chance to address a person who had a misconception about the SCSD, what would you say? The Syracuse City School District has teachers and students who are well rounded people. I made the choice to attend the school district because I like that the people here are not only academically smart. I learn just as much from my classes as I do from having conversations with my teachers and classmates, whether it is about politics, pop art, etc. They are truly knowledgeable about different aspects of life.
